Story

        "You belong in the dark."

The world is a place quite similar to ours, only magic and those who wield it truly exist. A hereditary art, its use is viciously limited by law, and those who disobey that law are severely punished. Due to its fickle nature and passage through genes, only certain people are allowed to breed. For this reason, the art stays among the upper classes and politicians, where it is fostered and put to use.

The people are much like we are. There are the freaks, the addicts, the "normal" majority, the celebrities, the snobs, the poor, the rich, the crazies. But there is one fundamental difference. In this world, those who rule don't have the money or the power - they have the magic. The primary fear of the people isn't of their God, it's of their leaders.

Zenith is a rising band, composed of, quite possibly, the most dysfunctional members possible. Either they're really lucky, the fans love their quirks, or I'm the creator and can take as many liberties as I please. It all begins here.

History
Zenith was born in the spring of 2000, during finals week. Why do I remember this? Because I had nothing better to do in between finals than draw, so guess what I did. Yes, I drew.

Frankly, I don't remember what thought directly inspired this story, however my conceptual images certainly added to it. As more characters were designed, more of their personalities were formed, and how they reacted to the other characters was developed. Essentially, the story grew on its own.

Originally, Zenith was a very serious take on relationships between people. There was angst, torture, drama, pain, and sadness. At the beginning of 2002, a radical change was made to the storyline. Now there's all of that plus magic and humor! =D

When creating Zenith, I wanted to try and make a story different from my other concepts [all of which are of the fantasy genre], so making something modern and real life was interesting and challenging.

Even today, Zenith continues to grow the more I sit on it and chew away at thoughts. I'm looking forward to what's going to happen next just as much as you are, so let's wait and watch together, hmm?
